In this workshop we will cover the best practices for responding to KCACTF productions and will look at effective ways to prepare for and give production responses that are thoughtful, respectful of the work and offer value to the students.

One of the most important skills any writer can have— at least if you’re in any way fond of being published (and even getting paid!)—is the ability to sell a frantically busy editor on what you want to write, why it’s important and timely, and why you are the only one who can write it.
We’ll delve into: * What makes a compelling story and point of view * How and where to come up with good story ideas * What kinds of publications are covering the kinds of things I want to write about? Do any of them pay? Where do I start? * All the different shapes your story may take: previews, profiles, Q&As, reviews * What to include in your pitch, and what you can leave out * How to pitch and editor you've never contacted before * Establishing a rapport with your editor and building your portfolio * Dealing with rejection (and why you should keep at it) * What to do once you get the green light
Students will see examples of real-life pitches that our instructor landed, to get a sense of how a pitch is built and how editors respond. Then they’ll get practice brainstorming ideas, honing in on what the unique angle is, and then finally crafting that irresistible pitch.
A space for African American Artists to meet and discuss experiences. Come - share, ask questions, seek answers, provide answers or just sit and observe.

Creating a world for the stage is a complicated and tedious endeavor in itself. When you add in trying to create a world that is also accessibility friendly can become a puzzle that can be confusing, but is an important skill to have and to think about when creating these worlds. This is not just for the actors, but keeping this in mind for management and crew as well. This is an introductory workshop where we will look at some of the ways we may try and solve some of these puzzles to keep things accessible, functional, and still tell the story well.

A session to discuss the alternative design careers on can pursue other than traditional theatre. This workshop will explore the answers to the question “what do I do with a theatre design degree?” by looking at professional designer’s work that will inspire you to think “outside the box” when it comes to picking a career path.

Join us in strengthening your audition technique and specificity for self-taped as well as in-person auditions. Here we will be experimental - working to craft strong, creative, and individualized audition packages. Actors should have a 32 bar cut (and its accompaniment/backing track) or 1-2 minute monologue prepared to workshop in a mock audition setting, in which participants will perform their piece, play through the text/song with Rachel, and leave having made bold choices and new discoveries.
